Location:         Hybrid Working / Midlands

Salary:             up to £42k depending on experience plus overtime.

The postholder will provide assistance to the client street lighting service delivery team in relation to the management and overseeing of the term maintenance contract along with associated asset management functions. Subsequently, the postholder will assist with arrangements and monitoring reactive works with the street lighting contractor.

Responsibilities and desirable skills:

  • To assist in coordinating planned and reactive maintenance in relation to highway electrical assets as well as monitoring emergency response.
  • To assist the team by undertaking duties to enable the Street Lighting Asset Manager, Team Leaders, and Street Lighting Engineers to concentrate on complex and non-routine matters and provide excellent customer service.
  • Respond promptly to enquiries to ensure customer response standards and performance indicators are met in terms of timescales and quality.
  • Assist in the development of work instructions for non-planned works and monitor works progress.
  • Undertake on-site and desktop assessments of work quality and suitability with specification.
  • Assist in the maintenance of asset management systems.
  • Assist with the monitoring of the Central Management System (CMS).
  • Checking and processing of task orders raised as a result of reported defects.
  • Assessing and processing of information for compensation events relating to damage to crown property.
  • Assist in the production of future programmes of work for approval.
  • Refer enquiries to Engineers and other highway related departments, ensuring sufficient information is provided to enable further investigation, or engineering work, as required.
  • Assisting with the updating of the asset database as assets are upgraded or replaced due to damage.
  • Undertake post-construction and witness testing inspection for third party projects on the network.
  • Be able to communicate confidently with external stakeholders and internal member of the service delivery team by letter, e-mail, or telephone as required.

The postholder must be prepared to undertake some work outside normal office hours in the interests of the service such as during an emergency, scheduled maintenance works, or ad hoc inspections of the network.

Desirable qualifications and experience:

  • Electrical qualification with application within a street lighting environment
  • Experience of providing good customer care – particularly in dealing with customer/client queries and subsequent contractor engagement.
  • Experience of regular multi-tasking and dealing with non-routine activities as well as advanced technical and/or practical skills within a street lighting environment.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD software would be beneficial.
  • Relevant technical experience of working in a street lighting environment.
  • Relevant knowledge of legislation and codes of practice related to electrical and street lighting activities (e.g. CDM:2015, TSRGD:2016, BS7671).

Skills and abilities:

  • Ability to deal with the public in difficult circumstances whilst demonstrable skills in managing information and communicating with others.
  • Ability to work within a team as well as on own initiative with excellent customer care and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to use and interpret schematic and layout information.
