LIGHTING UP LONDON

Registration for the two-day event opened in March. Members will be able to reflect on, and celebrate, 100 years of the Institution as well as look forward to the future.

It’s not the only centenary that will be being celebrated, however. That’s because one of the Summit’s keynote presentations will be on the fact 2024 is also the centenary of the spectral luminous efficiency function for photopic vision, or V(λ).

To that end, Peter Thorns, Professor Peter Raynham and Stuart Mucklejohn will reflect on the development of V(λ), its application and limitations but also its contribution to guiding us in terms of how to gauge the visual impact of any given lighting design.

Another keynote presentation will come from Allan Howard, who will examine the growing concerns around LED headlight glare, as highlighted in Lighting Journal in March (‘Blinded by the (oncoming) light’, vol 89 no 3).

The fact the government has now indicated it intends to review the brightness of car headlights in the wake of a public petition will only serve to make this presentation doubly topical.

Other presentations to look out for will include Toby Penter who will be considering the impact of irregular illumination – or flashing lights. Anthony Smith will address the challenges of ‘future proofing’ architectural lighting.

But that is very much just a snapshot of what is set to be a jam-packed two days of high-quality CPD, networking and product showcases for ILP members. To find out more, and to register, simply go to: https://summit.theilp.org.uk/

There will be a programme of parallel, and often interactive, workshops for members to engage – with each headline sponsor being allotted a 20-minute workshop slot. There will also be a buzzing exhibition space where exhibitors and sponsors can showcase their products, network and build brand awareness.

Also new for this year will be a ‘dynamic’ floor plan across several areas, all with catering stations. You won’t want to miss it!
