How To Be Brilliant autumn progamme to kick off next week

After taking a break over the summer, the ILP’s How To Be Brilliant programme will return with a bang next week, with a talk by renowned lighting designer Marci Song.

Marci, director at SEAM Design, (pictured above) will be speaking at the Lutron Experience Centre in London on Tuesday 23 September on the topic of leaving a lighting legacy.

The event will start from 6pm at the Lutron Experience Centre, which is located at 125 Finsbury Pavement in London, just up from Moorgate tube station.

Marci will share her insights on legacy and the ways thoughtful lighting can create lasting impact in the spaces we inhabit. She will also outline her approach to creating positive impact through the lit environment – in an evening that is set to be informative, engaging and inspiring.

How To Be Brilliant is the ILP’s longstanding programme of public talks for anyone interested in taking a deep dive into lighting and lighting design, but especially those new to the industry or just starting out.

It is this year being generously sponsored by Lutron, which allows the programme to remain free to attend.

September’s How To Be Brilliant will then be followed by a special Halloween/gothic-inspired talk on 28 October by Jono Kenyon and Martha Godfrey, director and lighting designer respectively at BEAM Lighting Design.

Jono and Martha will discuss the recent ‘The World of Tim Burton’ exhibition – for which Martha was the lead designer – with their talk again taking place from 6pm at the Lutron Experience Centre.

The World of Tim Burton exhibition ran until May at London’s Design Museum and followed the artist and director’s creative output from his childhood through to the present day, encompassing drawings, paintings, photographs, sketchbooks, moving-image works, sculptural installations, his sets and costume designs. It promises to be a fascinating evening!

Looking to the end of the year, How To Be Brilliant will then continue in November with a talk at LiGHT25, which will itself be returning to the Business Design Centre in Islington from 19-20 November.
