ILP members named in WES ‘Top 50 Women in Engineering’

Congratulations to ILP members Amanda Reece and Fiona Horgan, who have been named within the Women’s Engineering Society Top 50 Women in Engineering 2026.

Amanda is currently Chair of the ILP’s Women Lighting Professionals (WLP), as well as senior lighting engineer at AtkinsRéalis.

Fiona is an ILP Past President and head of service – lighting and traffic engineering at Islington Council in London.

The list, now in its eleventh year, was published in June to coincide with International Women in Engineering Day, and is designed to honour “exceptional women engineers”, said WES.

The awards were created “to increase the visibility of women engineers, and provide powerful role models for the next generation. Each year, the awards spotlight a different theme, reflecting the evolving landscape of engineering and the diverse ways women are shaping it,” the society added, with this year’s theme being “Engineering Intelligence”.

“I was blown away,” Amanda told Lighting Journal of the honour. “I’ve been a member of WES since I started in lighting in 2011; I’ve done a lot of volunteering with them on the historical side of women in engineering, the founding mothers of the profession.

“I’d love to get more women from lighting on to that Top 50 list going forward. So my message to female ILP members is put yourself forward for next year!” she added.
