SLL launches ‘Get Curious’ programme to boost school lighting placements

The Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) has launched an initiative to encourage lighting professionals and teams to offer work placements to Key Stage 4 school pupils, or those aged 14 to 15.

The ‘Get Curious’ lighting programme has been launched by SLL president Kristina Allison as part of her presidential theme of education and, in particular, kickstarting interest in ‘STEAM’ careers, in other words science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

For companies interested in getting involved there is a work placements page on the CIBSE website, which includes a form to fill in, after which the placement opportunity will be advertised online to enable the appropriate connection to be made.

“With opportunities across the country and wider with a range of different lighting companies from product design, lighting practices and manufacturing companies we want to inspire students to want to learn about our magical subject, to ‘be curious’ about how light works for all its facets, from physics to art to technology,” the SLL has said.
