The Opportunity

In the role of Senior Technician Street Lighting, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:

• Illuminate your career as a Street Lighting Senior Technician and be part of our dynamic asset management team.

• Grab an opportuntiy to shape the street lighting and exterior lighting services in Derby ensuring we meet the present and future needs of the city, in a sustainable and environmental manner.

• We are looking for a suitably qualified electrician who has preferably worked within the Highways Electrical industry, with recent experience in the design, delivery, and management of street lighting projects from feasibility to implementation.

• An extensive working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation relevant to the construction industry and experience of carrying out design and site risk assessments.

• With the ability to provide advice to a range of council and external clients, to ensure public safety and compliance with statutory obligations, relevant codes of practice and the Street Lighting PFI Contract.

About You

To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have…

• Experience in the preparation of feasibility studies for street lighting projects and other projects where street lighting is involved.

• We are looking for a highly motivated and technically strong Technican who is able to work independently.

• Experience and understanding of relevant standards for a wide range of both street lighting and, exterior lighting applications. This includes lighting schemes for highways (traffic routes, residential roads, new developments), car parks, tunnels, architecture, sports pitches, amenities, and parks.

• Experience using lighting software packages and Computer-Aided Design (AutoCad)

• Ability to provide client supervision of street lighting operations carried out by the PFI service provider or other street lighting contractors on council projects.

• Familiarity with the management and delivery of small schemes and projects with minimal supervision, and contribute to the delivery of major schemes, including the preparation of drawings, documents, and schedules.

• Experience of undertaking testing, inspections, and surveying works and train/supervise more junior staff where required.

• Ability to prepare street lighting reports, inspection reports, assessment reports, method statements, risk assessments, health and safety plans, and health and safety files.
